Home-cooked Meals to

Nourish You

Postpartum Personal Chef Services

Christina provides nutritious food that I thought we wouldn’t be able to afford on a weekly basis. I feel like I am putting healthier food in my body each week and I can feel my energy levels and overall well being increasing. I am saving money by not eating takeout all the time, and I am eating real food instead of prepackaged foods.

It is very common for pregnant persons to become nutritionally imbalanced or deficient. The little human that you are growing inside is getting all of the nutrients, which means you might not get the essential vitamins and minerals you need for your postpartum experience. If you plan to breastfeed, that nutritional deficit is likely to get worse.

You know you need to eat well when pregnant or nursing.

But how do you know which foods will support your postpartum recovery and lactation journey?

And who has time to plan meals, find recipes, shop, chop, and cook every day? Especially with a new baby in the family?!

Imagine instead if you could have a week’s worth of homemade, nutritious meals ready to eat without lifting a finger. (You could even skip the grocery store if you wanted to!)

I’m Christina Mensah, your postpartum personal chef, and that’s what I can do for you.

When I was diagnosed with ovarian cancer while pregnant with my first daughter, I tried to eliminate as many toxins from our lives as possible. I made everything from scratch, including bread and tortillas, all while raising my two babies who were only 16 months apart. And it didn’t even feel like work! Cooking brings me complete joy.

For me, food and the act of feeding people has always been a gift of love and a balm to body and soul.

Are you ready to give that gift to yourself?

I am also able to share food. I love to entertain but I get anxious about not knowing what to serve people. The portions are large enough to share with another couple, which is really amazing because we don’t really get date night out, so the closest thing we can get is having another couple come over. The socialization is good for my mental health but the anxiety of what to cook is always so overwhelming that we VERY RARELY have people over because it pushes me to panic attacks. Having Christina’s food on hand means when friends call and want to drop by, I can say yes. It’s very empowering.

Postpartum Meal Prep Packages

Together we will plan a menu that supports your postpartum recovery, lactation journey, and special considerations such as mastitis. I’ll come to your home in Tacoma* and batch-cook your nutritionally sound meals, then portion them into storage containers.** All you have to do is reheat!

*Travel fees apply for households located farther than 15 miles from Puget Sound Birth in Tacoma.

**If you don’t have enough storage containers, I can provide some for an additional fee.

COVID-19 Precautions: I am fully vaccinated against COVID-19 and I always wear a mask when working with all of my postpartum and meal preparation clients. I rigorously and repeatedly sanitize my hands and work surfaces throughout the meal preparation process.

Frequently Asked Questions

I have a large family. Can you cook for all of us?

Yes! Personal chef service packages are priced the same as long as the number of servings is in the range listed and I’m cooking the same menu for everyone. The cost of groceries will vary based on serving number.

My kitchen is a mess! Can you cook our meals offsite and bring them here?

Don’t worry about the state of your kitchen! I never judge and I’ve cooked in tiny New York and Boston apartments without any problems. All I ask is that you have kitchen surfaces clear and empty dishes out of the sink by the time I arrive. At this time, I must do meal preparation in my clients’ homes as my home kitchen is not licensed for commercial use.

I don’t have any special cookware or tools. Can you still cook for us?

Yes! I typically use your pots and pans (don’t need anything fancy!) but I’ll bring my own knives, cutting board, and other prep tools.

How do we reheat our meals?

You can reheat meals in the microwave, oven, or stovetop. (Please pay attention to your containers so you don’t put metal or non-safe plastics in the microwave!)

How long does meal prep take?

I can cook a week’s worth of meals in about 5-7 hours. Depending on your storage capacity, I can do a whole week in one session, or come back again midweek to top your fridge off.

Our grocery budget is fixed. Can you plan meals that don’t require expensive ingredients?

Yes, I can recommend and select recipes that work within your budget. I can also shop at specified stores if you prefer.

Can you pick up snacks and other items for us while you’re shopping?

Yes, and I can also suggest great snack foods as well.
